The precipice I wrote of last post is on hold due to the snow. Seattle has had an unseasonably warm winter but was recently hit with what feels like the last remnants of the polar vortex that had menaced the midwest last week. Since snow is not a common occurrence in Seattle, an inch of snow or icy conditions from melted snow that freezes overnight is enough to cancel activity for the day. I rode the bus to Lower QA yesterday and was the only one on the bus at 5:30pm!
The excitement that had built up on Sunday night and to a lesser extent Monday night has just about bottomed out. That said, I’m sure when I’m sitting in the bus, riding to the first day of class, I’ll feel an overwhelming surge of the reality that I’m about to really GET STARTED.
In preparation for the first day, we’ve been assigned a few pieces of homework, like setting up our environment and familiarizing ourselves with Terminal. Craving more Ada stuff, I’ve also been searching for more material to read and ran into Sam Jarman’s blog post interviewing Lauren Lee, an Adie alum who shares a background in teaching and education, about mentorship and her thoughts on Tech in Seattle. It’s a really great read with cool resources for women wanted to get into tech via non-traditional routes.
Here’s to hoping my first day will be in less than 24 hours!
