I am on the precipice of an enormous change. In less than 72 hours, I will be sitting in a classroom, an official student of Ada Developers Academy diving headfirst into the tech world.
My background is in education. Bright eyed and fresh from college, I joined forces with Teach for America and taught high school for two years before spending the last 1.5 years as a recruiter for a new charter school network in Washington.
My desire to shift fields was a culmination of a lot of things. I wanted to learn a new, valuable skill. I wanted to feel impactful. I wanted to work with more resources, something that non-profits and public schools are too often lacking in. I believe I can achieve this in the tech world. Ultimately, I want to be the one building tools and systems for teachers that are more efficient, user-friendly, and can help boost student learning, especially for those that suffer from the structurally-imposed opportunity gap that exists in our country.
Ada Developers Academy is uniquely positioned to get me there. The application process was incredibly rigorous and tested me both intellectually and emotionally (maybe a blog post for another time) but rightly so as the next year will likely be one of the most difficult endeavors I’ve undertaken. This blog is to document this process, one where I go from a non-profit lady to a tech lady.
Let’s get started! T-3 days!
